I find these train cars that transport vehicle frames to be so intriguing-the simplicity of the structure, the repetition....will it translate into wood?

Snow-day in Central Texas

Gotta love it when it snows in the Hill Country.  These are photos from around our yard from a couple weeks back.

City of Austin People's Gallery

Austin People's Gallery opening was last night, and, once again, there was an large turnout and a wonderful show.  Though, I have to admit that I was peaked after a very full 8.5 hours of teaching 3D Design-nothing that a couple IPA's at Snack Bar couldn't cure.....
Work worth your wanderings:

Ty Johnson's "Double Duck."  Excellent large ceramic sculpture with an amazing soda fired glaze.
Also, "Hydra City."  A collaborative blacksmithing sculpture, including Rebekah Franks, the Austin Metal Authority folks and others.   Austin Metal Authority   Rebekah Frank

Shawn Smith.  I got to see his work first at D.Berman Gallery, really well executed wood sculptures!  Shawn Smith

Recent Sculptures

Two views of "Serrotinous Bomb," aka:  pineapple bomb.  Started in 2008 while teaching at SUNY Potsdam, reworked last summer.  Its a beautiful piece of Honeycomb Calcite from Myles at 2sculpt.com/
Laura's piece, "Limestone Cradle," with base #3.  The stone is from the boneyard that we inherited with our house in San Marcos, the piece is one of those notorious pieces that began as a demo as I was trying to motivate students in my sculpture class last summer at TXState.
"Wooden Valve."  #2 in the series.  The body is live oak and the hydraulic rams are misc pine and such.
